On top of the new areas, enemies and pet sword… thing. The Mausoleum: A new humanoid boss with his own story to tell, tough pattern based combat and a magnificent setting for a showdown. It’s turning out to be rather stressful really. Worse still, the weather’s taken a nasty turn and doused your hopes for some R&R on the beach, not to mention the creepy lantern wielding wizards that keep blocking your path with their shovel brandishing minions. The Undying Shores: Your holiday plans have been spoiled by enemies that won’t seem to stay dead, which is something of a problem when attempting to navigate a slippery cliff face. All this, while trying not to wake the menacing axe hefting stone statues. The Fractured Shrines: While the breathtaking view may be distracting, you’ll need to keep your eye on the crows as you caper from platform to platform, sidestepping spear-wielding snakes, skirting sadistic new traps and vaulting over the seemingly bottomless void. Or not… Either way you’ll need her help as you explore more of the island spread over two new levels and a boss fight which include four and a half new enemies, a veritable arsenal of weapons and of course a bunch of hidden tidbits of lore. She’s bloodthirsty and head over heels with you, so be gentle. Team up with a powerful new Brutality based ally. This is new mid game content for people looking for alternatives to the Stilt Village, Clock Tower and Time Keeper areas and their parallels. Explore floating shrines, infiltrate the lair of an outlawed secret society and learn the tells of a new boss. Try not to fall as you wind your way along the sheer cliffs of the island’s coast. (Sepulcher isn't too bad, but if something goes wrong or you don't have a strong build to blast through everything, a run can go from great to dead VERY quickly in there).Gain a sharp and somewhat overprotective aerial ally as you fight through two new biomes and a boss! Challenging level designs will force you to rethink your approach in this new mid game content designed to add variety to your runs and continue support for the development of the game. IMO, the Distillery, Cavern, and Sepulcher are the hardest biomes for me. I wouldn't be surprised if they are preferred by many. The new biomes seems to be loaded with gear and are kind of predictable to navigate. If it it was one-handed similar to the katana charge mechanic, or two-handed but primary was ranged, or primary was ranged, but secondary was melee or an AOE, or seconary has smart targeting, then I'd like it more. The only one I'm not fond of is the lantern, since it is two-handed and it is hard to judge overkill/underkill. I use it in hand most of the time and pop it out for a second or two at a time to finish off marked enemies or to apply marks/kill trash. And Serenade is super fun and works great with all bladed weapons. Cocoon is great for giving you another parry option when using a crossbow or two-handed weapon, but I wish it was more obvious when you miss a parry and it's now on cooldown. Lightning Rods combos GREAT with War Javelin teleport: put a rod down, throw javelin through everyone, teleport, place second rod, and everything is dead. Iron Staff is much better than I thought it would be, both as a primary weapon and as a shield stand-in.
